THE HIDDEN REFERENCES THAT YOU MIGHT HAVE MISSED IN TAYLOR SWIFT’S 'FORTNIGHT' MUSIC VIDEO

Taylor Swift just dropped her 11th studio album, The Tortured Poets Department. And with it came our first visual look at her latest era, in the form of the music video for 'Fortnight', featuring Post Malone.

As you might expect from a Taylor release, there are plenty of hidden references and Easter Eggs for fans to find, if you’re watching closely enough. But just in case you missed them, we’ve put together our list of nods to the past and present…

The pill bottle numbers

At the beginning of the video, while Taylor is chained to a bed in what appears to be a hospital, she is handed a pill from a 'Forget Him' bottle. Even though it’s upside down, the prescription number on the bottle starts on her birthday (December 13, 1989) and ends on the release date of her new album (April 19, 2024).

Her Grammy dress

If you thought that the dress that she’s wearing looks familiar, it’s almost identical to the one that she wore at the Grammys this year. The only difference is that she’s wearing white gloves instead of black ones. But how do the Grammys relate to her new album? Well, that’s when she announced that The Tortured Poets Department was to be released next.

The missing typewriter key

What could a missing number 1 on her typewriter indicate? It could be a nod to her Folklore song 'The 1' or the fact that the surprise part 2 to The Tortured Poets Department was released at 2am in the US, meaning it started at two.

'The Story Of Us'

One of Taylor’s earliest songs, 'The Story Of Us' from her album Speak Now is referred to as she reads from a book, titled Us, while laying down with Post Malone.

The Dead Poets Society cameos

The movie that appears to have inspired the title of Taylor’s latest album, Dead Poets Society, is referenced by two special cameos. Both Ethan Hawke and Josh Charles, who play Todd Anderson and Knox Overstreet, respectively in the 1989 movie, appear as researchers preparing to perform electro-shock therapy on Taylor.

Clara Bow

And who actually had electro-shock therapy? The subject of one of the songs on her latest release, actor Clara Bow.

Hidden lyrics

Is it a heart monitor? Or is it a lie detector test? Either way, this one clip shows what appears to be hidden lyrics from the song itself. 'I love you, it’s ruining my life,' is shown, while we also saw Taylor type out the same line earlier in the video on the typewriter.

A nod to Poor Things

If you’ve seen Poor Things you might be reminded of the hit movie as Taylor is shown with wires strapped to her head. For those who didn’t already know, Taylor and actor Emma Stone have been close friends for years, with Emma even contributing to the new song 'Florida!!!', under her real name Emily Jean Stone.

Cats

As the music video comes to a close and 'The End' card is shown, if you take a really close look you will see cats hidden in the corners. I mean, would it be a Taylor Swift Easter Egg without at least one reference to her feline friends?
